The Assistive Technology Specialist is an integral part of the Adult Services Team, working to make an impact on the people we serve by integrating assistive technology among the tools that people with visual impairments, sometimes along with other disabilities, can access to adapt and enhance daily living skills.

  • Reports to the Supervisor of Adult Services.


  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in a computer related field or commensurate experience working in a computer related position; experience providing assistive technology evaluation/training to persons who are visually impaired preferred, CATIS certification or certification eligible preferred. Possess knowledge of the current accessible technologies for persons who are blind/visually impaired. 

  • Ability to assess software and hardware needs, including use of accessible software/hardware, to allow client to meet their goals. Proficient with accessibility features of mobile technology including iOS and Android devices and applications.  Ability to evaluate and provide instruction, including to persons with multiple disabilities, to determine goals pertaining to: accessing printed information, accessing electronic information, performing written communication, accessing mobile navigational information, participating in recreation and leisure activities through electronic means, ability to maintain personal, business and health records, ability to perform duties/tasks in the workplace.



Determine, through evaluation, how assistive technology can meet the needs of persons who are blind/visually impaired and provide training related to the use of the appropriate assistive technology

Ability to drive for extended periods of time as services are itinerant covering the state of NH

Ensure timely input and reporting of service data in the client database

Participate in the development, implementation and completion of client programs within the department and agency

Collaborate with external partners in the provision of services to clients

Serve as a resource to clients, families and the community at large

Ability to work as a team player

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Excellent people skills

Serve as key member of the Adult Services Team

Ability to lift up to 15 pounds of various materials on an occasional basis

Regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Schedule may often vary due to activities, events, and the general nature of the work. Additional hours, including evenings and weekends, are required periodically. Some travel within New Hampshire is required with mileage reimbursement.
