Meet Christine Durocher. Christine’s story is not unlike the many individuals we help. She was left with life altering vision loss after a diagnosis of a brain tumor involving her optic nerve when she was just a Junior in college. Following surgery to remove the tumor, Christine was grateful to emerge with 15% of her sight remaining as the doctors were concerned she may be left completely blind. As you can imagine, the journey was not easy. Read her story of transformation.

It was a startling encounter –

I was on my way to an appointment in Boston early one morning when an unshaven man stumbled into my path. He looked at me and shouted, “What are you smiling about?” I answered, without even thinking, “Because it’s the beginning of a brand-new day!”

As I continued on my way, it dawned on me: I’m walking around with a smile on my face. It’s true! And I want you to know, a big part of that smile is due to Future In Sight.

Things were so different and difficult after my diagnosis. I could see people were having a hard time knowing what to say to me and I felt awkward that they felt awkward. It became easier to stay in, stay home, stay away, but I knew I couldn’t live the rest of my life caged in.

Then I heard about Future In Sight.

I had no idea what Future In Sight could offer me. However, from the very first call, I spoke with people who had real insight into what I was experiencing and what I was feeling. I wasn’t alone. Not only did they offer me skills I needed, but they encouraged me every step of the way. I realized there was still so much to look forward to every day.

I’m not caged in. I’m back out in the world, welcoming each new day. Today I work in medical records in a Manchester hospital and I feel so fortunate to be out there living my life. I’m living proof that the work Future In Sight does is life changing!

Future In Sight helped me regain life, independence, and real joy—and helped put that smile back on my face that strangers passing by recognize. Thank you for reading my story and caring enough to help write a happy ending for someone else.
