Concord, NH (September 20, 2021) Christopher T. Sununu, Governor of the State of New Hampshire, proclaimed October 2021 as White Cane & Dog Guide Users Awareness Month and calls this to the attention of all citizens.

The white cane and dog guide, in addition to being practical mobility tools, serves as a symbol of dignity, freedom, and independence for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. People who are blind and visually impaired are skilled and contributing members of society, and we must highlight the availability of existing tools to facilitate communication and work to improve access to them.

People who are blind and visually impaired face unique obstacles in their daily lives as they strive to achieve their goals and aspirations. Mobility tools, such as the white cane and dog guide, and specialized instruction in their use, are critical in helping those who are blind and visually impaired to overcome these obstacles.

Future In Sight, and agencies and organizations of and for people who are blind and visually impaired in New Hampshire, wish to bolster public education and awareness of the contributions of people who are blind and visually impaired.

Future In Sight strives to educate individuals in New Hampshire who are blind and visually impaired, including providing accessible materials and technology. These tools will not only prove fruitful for the economic development of New Hampshire but prove to advance the independence of persons who are blind and visually impaired.
