My mother was legally blind as she had very little vision to one eye due to an accident. This didn’t stop her from reading 2 newspapers a day and any magazine she could get a hold of. I was really impressed with what she could do with one eye. When I retired, I was looking for something I could do that would help people who were less fortunate than I. When I saw the ad in the Monitor looking for volunteers, I signed up. That was several years ago. It was the best thing I could have done. I have made many friends through my volunteering and it’s a very rewarding and a nice feeling that I am able to help these friends who are blind in any way possible. They are really an inspiration and wonderful to work with.
