VLOG: Technology for Orientation & Mobility; Sunu Band

Technology is continuing to influence the practice of Orientation and Mobility (O&M) for children and adults who are blind or visually impaired. Increasingly, in education it is a great equalizer between students who have visual impairments and their sighted peers.  For adults advances in technology can streamline daily tasks, adapt workplace tools and “see” what is typically in a field of vision.  Naturally, not every tool works in every situation for every person.  Future In Sight Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Kelly Spain-Kelly and Michael Mulligan have been working with various devices to better understand their benefits.  Such devices do not replace training and using a white cane, but for some, technology add-ons are a benefit.

Designed to share with other O & M professionals, Kelly, who works with children and youth, and Michael, who works with adults, have started a video blog series (VLOG) to feature a few devices – the Sunu Band, We Walk cane and Aira glasses – to launch the series.  As a follow-up to the videos, they’ll be facilitating a workshop at Future In Sight on May 22, 2020 from 8:30 – 5:00.  This workshop is free for practicing O & M Specialists in New Hampshire.  To register contact [email protected]
