The Association is appreciative of the continued support from the People’s United Community Foundation. Their award of $2,500 for orientation and mobility services will provide assistance to the elderly, working-aged adults, and children in the communities we serve.
PEOPLE’S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $2,500 TO THE NEW HAMPSHIRE ASSOCIATION FOR THE BLIND
MANCHESTER, NH – The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it has once again awarded $2,500 to the New Hampshire Association for the Blind in Concord. This brings the total grants from People’s United Community Foundation to $8,000.
New Hampshire Association for the Blind provides non-medical vision rehabilitation services to elderly, working-aged adults, and children who are blind or visually impaired. Through its Orientation & Mobility Program, the association offers specialized instructions for navigating surroundings and avoiding obstacles without the benefit of visual cues and technology.
“The grant from People’s United Community Foundation will support orientation and mobility services, which train individuals who are blind to not only travel in their community safely and confidently, but live and even thrive with vision loss” said David Morgan, President & CEO, New Hampshire Association for the Blind. “Professional instructors teach highly specialized skills, including interpreting environments, crossing streets, learning routes, and independently navigating complex places such as malls, city streets, airports, and campuses.”

Established in 2007, People’s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People’s United Bank serves. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods. The funding priorities of the Foundation include affordable housing, community development, and youth development.
