As people who are blind and vision-impaired, will you be guaranteed a secure, private, and independent voting experience?
For State and Federal elections, each polling location is required to have one accessible booth. This includes New Hampshire’s accessible voting system known as One4All. This consists of a tablet, a high-contrast keyboard, and headphones. Please, check out the tutorial demonstration video of this equipment to understand how it works!
Still, local elections are not yet required to offer this accessibility.
For instance, in the upcoming elections this November, blind and vision-impaired people will not have the ability to vote with a secure, private, and independent ballot. Future In Sight is a member of the Coalition of Blind and Vision Impaired Voters. Along with other organizations and individuals with vision loss, we stride tirelessly to make sure the vote for every election for blind and vision-impaired people is secure, private, and independent.
On the local level, there is much more to do!
If your city has an election this November, please send the Accessible Voting Request Letter template to your city clerk’s office 2-3 weeks before the election. Sending the letter lays the groundwork for what each city should be offering on election day. If your vote is not secure, private, and independent at the time of city elections this November, please take a moment to send the Follow Up Complaint Letter template to the same city clerk’s office.
