Jason Valley and Link

Jason Valley is 49 years old and has been a client at Future In Sight since 2017.

Jason walking with his guide dog LinkJason’s story begins in the Fall of 2015 with a staph infection that landed in his spine. In April 2016, Jason had two major surgeries to clear out the infection, then lost a majority of his sight between April and November. In 2017, Jason did Orientation & Mobility training with Future In Sight to help him (and his guide dog Link) live independently.

We asked Jason how his life has changed since losing a majority of his vision. Here’s what he had to say: “Since losing my vision, I’ve learned how to function through life as a blind man. Jason making tactile map

Thanks to Future In Sight I was able to learn how to walk with a white cane as well as my guide dog Link. I now use magnifying optics to do some of my basic tasks for crafting. I’ve also found it to be super helpful participating in the Peer Support Group at Future In Sight.”
