October 1, 2014 – The Lincoln Financial Foundation recently awarded $6,000 to the New Hampshire Association for the Blind for its vital peer support programs in Concord, Manchester and the Seacoast.
Since 1996 the Association has found that group peer support is the most effective strategy to help people who are losing their sight or have lost their sight. The overall goal of the program is to “advance the independence of persons who are blind and visually impaired;” the Association’s mission for more than 100 years. The group model is based upon sharing experiences, mutual respect and empathy. The groups are facilitated by counselors, clients and social work interns and are made possible with the support of the Lincoln Financial Foundation.
The New Hampshire Association for the Blind is committed to being the primary organization where individuals, caregivers, family and the medical community can learn more about the wide range of services, information and resources that are available throughout the state.
