Nothing says summer like hot dog – and that isn’t always a good thing. I’ve compiled all my paws-itively important advice to keep your furry friends safe and cool during the summer heat. Dogs can overheat quickly, so it’s essential to be mindful of the temperature.

Here are some signs it’s too hot for your dog:

  • Pavement Test: Place the back of your hand on the pavement. If you can’t hold it there for five seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.
  • Excessive Panting: Heavy panting, drooling, and a fast heartbeat are signs your dog might be overheating.
  • Seeking Shade: If your dog constantly seeks shade or lies down during walks, it might be too hot outside.

Here are some tips to help your dog stay cool and comfortable:

  • Hydration: Always carry water and a portable bowl for your dog. Offer frequent water breaks.
  • Shade and Rest: Take breaks in shaded areas and avoid the midday sun. Early morning or late evening walks are best.
  • Cool Down Spots: Create a cool spot at home with a fan or air conditioning. A damp towel for your dog to lie on can also help.
  • Frozen Treats: Offer ice cubes or frozen dog treats to help cool your dog from the inside out.

Stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy the summer with your furry friends!
