POSITION: Occupational Therapist (OT)

ROLE OVERVIEW: 

Future In Sight has an immediate need for an Occupational Therapist to serve in the Southern Area of NH. Put your training and experience to work in our dynamic, growing nonprofit that provides rehabilitation and training across New Hampshire to thousands of adults who are blind or visually impaired. Work one-on-one with adults and seniors in their homes to evaluate how sight loss has affected their daily life and provide treatment on how to modify tasks or environments to optimize safety and independence. The ideal candidate resides in the Southern area and is looking for full-time employment, however others may be considered depending on qualifications and experience.

REPORTS TO: Adult Low Vision Rehabilitation Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Evaluate client needs, develop goals in conjunction with the client, and design treatment plan
  • Teach individual skills and techniques required for participation in activities
  • Recommend special equipment and adaptation of client’s living environment
  • Provide individual training with low vision aids, devices and assistive technology as required
  • Monitor client progress throughout treatment, prepare reports and communicate with the referring physician or agency; maintain records and reports as appropriate
  • Select constructive activities suited to an individual’s physical capability, cognition and interest to increase independence, assist in restoration of functions and aid in adjustment to disability

POSITION: Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) – Full-Time/Part-Time/Contract

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Future In Sight is looking for a Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) to be part of our vision rehabilitation team, working one-on-one with individuals who are blind and visually impaired. The COMS will provide Orientation & Mobility (O&M) services, primarily to adults, in varied environments including homes, schools, rehabilitation centers, assisted living facilities, and rural and urban communities throughout New Hampshire.

The ideal candidate will have sufficient experience, confidence, and skills to provide assessments and execute an individualized O&M service plan with minimum supervision.

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Adult Services

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage in a comprehensive approach of assessment and instruction which meets the diverse needs and abilities of each client and empowers them to achieve their immediate and lifelong goals.
  • Teach independent travel, orientation, and related skills for safe mobility in the home, community, educational and vocational environments including, as appropriate, the use of low vision devices, adaptive equipment and other techniques.
  • Apply guided exploration and a problem-solving approach that is customized to the goals and skills of each client.
  • Teach methods and strategies including the use of non-visual techniques (auditory and tactual) and visual techniques including the optimization of reliable remaining vision with the goal of developing independence and self-confidence when traveling.
  • Cooperates and consults with other vision rehabilitation professionals, family members, other parties, and agencies as appropriate to implement and facilitate the service plan.
  • Prepares, maintains, and submits accurate and timely records and reports as they relate to the provision of O&M services and planning.
  • Provides consultations, public education and in-service training as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Orientation & Mobility from an Accredited College or University
  • ACVREP Certified
  • Community-based O&M experience preferred but not required

POSITION:  Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) – Full-Time/Part-Time

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The number of students who need vision services is increasing and Future in Sight, New Hampshire’s only statewide non-profit vision service provider, is growing every day to meet those needs. Future In Sight offers families, schools and other education institutions access to a network of certified vision professionals. We are working to increase both our core capacity and our flexible capacity so that our students receive their vision services with fidelity.

At Future In Sight, we use evidence-based tools and closely collaborate with nearby institutions of higher education in action research to assess, evaluate, serve, and monitor our students. As a result, our students uniquely benefit. Empathy, collaboration, partnership, and appropriately high expectations for learners are our business.

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Youth Services

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are seeking TVIs to provide direct special education services to children and youth ages birth – 21, as well as consultation services to parents and families, teachers, service providers, and paraeducators specific to supporting children with vision loss. Our TVIs are itinerant, and provide in-person and/or live, on-line services. Our TVIs teach a diversity of learners with visual impairment, understand the unique functional and educational needs of learners with visual impairment and act as a liaison with community services.  We provide direct and/or consultative special education services to children ages birth-21, specific to vision loss. Direct TVI services are provided to students, typically in a 1:1 setting, determined by IEP goals specific to accessing the academic or expanded core (ECC) curriculum with a visual impairment.  The TVIs on the Future In Sight team are itinerant, meaning that they travel from school to school (or site to site) to provide services to students, support teachers and parents and act as a liaison with community services. The TVI works with the educational team by advising the team about ways of enhancing the student’s learning by adapting activities and materials to the student’s abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State certification as a Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired (TVI)
