Since 1912, Future In Sight has been working to advance the independence of NH residents of all ages who are blind and visually impaired – their vision loss often a result of trauma, disease and/or the natural progression of age.
Understanding that transportation is a challenge as most of the individuals we serve can no longer (or were never able to) drive, we travel around the state, providing direct service where the individual and their caretakers will actually be utilizing the training and tools they’ve received from us: within their home, community or school.
The residual effect of helping individuals with a severe vision disability live as independently as possible is that it also provides relief and confidence to the individual’s entire care team, which can include parents, adult children, friends, neighbors, educators, and anyone else who may be stepping in to help with daily tasks. Between September 2024 and August 2025 alone, we impacted 8,065 lives.
Since opening our doors over 114 years ago, our specially trained team of providers has helped more than 50,000 children, adults and seniors with severe vision impairments, which includes total blindness:
- Complete their schooling and consider options for a positive and meaningful future
- Safely and confidently navigate their home and community
- Prepare meals on their own
- Enjoy their favorite hobbies like reading books or watching TV
- Read mail and manage bills without assistance
- Stay socially connected with a cellphone, computer or tablet
- Get to vital appointments and run essential errands
- Emotionally and mentally adjust to losing their vision
Recognizing that more than 50% of the individuals we serve are considered low-income as a result of their vision disability and/or aging out of the workforce, Future In Sight relies on charitable support in order to ensure that no person or family is denied services.
