Want to stay active and safe outdoors this winter? Here are some great traction options to help prevent slips and falls on snow and ice:
- Yaktrax – Coil-based traction that fits over your shoes. Great for packed snow. Prices range from $22 to $60 depending on the model. Not ideal for sheer ice.
- Stabilicers Ice Cleats – Use metal studs for grip. Basic models start around $25, with heavy-duty versions up to $75. Best for icy sidewalks and driveways.
- Kahtoola MICROspikes – Mini crampons with stainless steel spikes. Excellent for trails and mountains. Priced around $84. Lightweight and reliable for serious winter hikers.
- LL Bean Boa Traction Devices– Mini crampons with stainless steel spikes with a one-handed tightening system. Ideal for those with limited hand mobility or hand strength. Priced around $75–$90.
- Icebug Studded Boots and Shoes – Premium winter boots and shoes with carbide steel studs built into the sole. No need to add anything—just slip them on and go. Prices range from $120 to $250. Great for mixed terrain but not indoor-friendly.
- NexGrip & Navatex Boots – Feature retractable cleats that flip out for traction and tuck away for indoor use. Stylish and practical. Prices range from $145 to $240.
- Vibram Arctic Grip Soles – Found in boots from brands like Merrell and Muck. Designed for wet ice traction. Prices vary widely, typically $160 to $300 depending on the boot style.
