Carl C.'s Story

Carl is in his 70s and has been living in Dover, NH with his wife for over 25 years. He was born with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) but still had vision in one eye. When the vision in that eye got worse, he had a surgery that did not go well and he now struggles with contrast resolution. His eye doctor connected him with Future In Sight and he now has the tools he needs to safely navigate his home environment and accomplish day to day tasks. He also takes advantage of our transportation program.

Maureen F.'s Story

Maureen is a widow who lives alone in Manchester, NH. Now in her 70s, she was diagnosed with Glaucoma at just 26 years old. As her vision worsened, eye drops and surgeries were no longer enough and she is now legally blind. She got connected to Future In Sight through her eye doctor and regularly utilizes our transportation services and attends our activities & workshops and peer support groups.

Denise D.'s Story

Darlene is in her 90s and lives in Portsmouth, NH with her husband of over 70 years and their little dog, Peaches. She has Macular Degeneration, which her mother and grandmother also had. She is still able to live safely at home due to the tools and training she has received from Future In Sight.

Cherie S.'s Story

Cherie, in her 70s, was feeling hopeless when she began to lose her sight. However, after connecting with Future In Sight and taking full advantage of our Orientation & Mobility, Occupational Therapy and Counseling services, she got the support she needed to thrive and travel the world.

Christine D.'s Story

Christine from Goffstown, NH lost much of her sight in college due to a brain tumor affecting her optic nerve. Now in her 70s, Future In Sight has supported Christine so that she has found a purpose and maintained her independence.

Youth Client Profiles

Amelia P.'s Story

Parents Ashaley and Billy from Concord, NH, noticed within the first three months of their daughter Amelia (Mia)’s life that her vision was not what it should be. Following tests by their pediatrician, they discovered Mia had irregular eye movements due to a genetic mutation. From there, they were referred to Future In Sight, who have offered support to their whole family through the Early Supports & Services (ESS) program.

Scott J.'s Story

Scott from Andover, NH was born with retinopathy of prematurity, affecting his vision throughout his life but becoming more prominent in his senior year of high school. Now in his 20s, Scott has found a sense of community through the support of his friends, family, eye doctor (who is also the Board Chair of Future In Sight!) andĀ Future In Sight’s services and activities geared toward youth.

Trisha L.'s Story

Trisha from Loudon, NH was born with vision loss due to albinism. During her high school years, she worked with a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) from Future In Sight to learn how to use technology and other strategies to navigate her world. With the combined support of her parents and Future In Sight’s dedicated team, Trisha gained valuable skills.

Timmy L.'s Story

Timmy from Loudon, NH has vision loss caused by albinism. During his teen years, he formed a close bond with the TSVI and Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) he worked with. In tandem with his parents, Future In Sight’s team taught Timmy how to navigate everything from homework to public transportation.

David K.'s Story

Dave is in his 70s and lives with is wife of over 50 years in Bedford, NH. He is a former Air Force pilot who lost his vision in his early 60s as a result of a lymphoma. As someone who directly understands the impact of our services, he now represents the blind and visually impaired (BVI) community as a volunteer Board Member.
